How to Delete Windows Update File

Not all windows updates are successfully installed. There are times you may experience an incomplete download or installation. But the downloaded file doesn’t leave your computer, it is saved on your internal drive.

This constitutes unnecessary data on your computer system which may take up a good amount of disk space. This makes it necessary to delete the update file to free up space on your computer system.

To do this, follow the instructions described below.

First, open the Windows File Explorer, and go to “This PC”. Here, you can view all the drives available on your computer.

Right-click on the (C:) drive, which is the Windows internal drive. And select “Properties”.

Next, click on “Disk Cleanup” from the “Properties” window.

Then, from the dialogue box that is displayed. Click on “Clean Up System Files”.

This scans through your internal storage and then displays the available folder. Check the “Windows Update Cleanup” box. Then click the “Ok” button.

You will be asked to confirm that you want to delete the selected files. Select “Delete Files” to continue.

The Windows update file should begin to delete immediately. This can take a couple of minutes.

Once done, your computer should be free of about 8GB of disk space.
