How to lock an iPhone App


Mobile security is an important issue to address as a smartphone user. And if you use your smartphone for business or to share information with friends and family, it may contain details that you won’t want others to be privy to.

While iPhones do come with the best security features, to prevent invading your privacy, there is no feature to lock apps on your phone to prevent unauthorized access. And unlike Android where you can find applications providing this service on the Play-store, you won’t find such an app on the AppStore.

While some applications, such as WhatsApp do come with an in-built feature that allow you protect your privacy with your Touch ID, many other applications don’t come with such feature. Hence, it became unclear on how to prevent un-authorized intruders into such apps.

In this guide, I am going to be showing you a simple trick to locking your iPhone apps without the aid of an app. You can do this by using the inbuilt screen time feature in your iPhone.

Lock iPhone Apps with Screen Time

To get started, go to Settings>>Screen Time.

Now, scroll to App Limits.

Next, you will need to enable App Limits and select the apps you wish to limit. To do so, select Add Limits.

Next, you will need to choose the Apps and Websites that you wish to add limits to. Select the whole category by checking the radio button for any app category, or select particular apps by opening each app category.

When you are done, click on the Next button. On the next screen, limit the time to 0h:1m. And enable the “Block at End of Limit” option.

Click on the Add button to continue. Now, return to Screen Time and scroll down to “Use Screen Time Passcode”.

You will be asked to input your preferred passcode and enter your Apple ID details for recovery in case you forgot.

Once one minute has been exceeded, your app will lock automatically and you can continue to it by using your Screen Time passcode.
