How to Update Android Emojis: How to Use iOS Emoji on Android

Emojis are a great way to express feelings and moods, it is a better option for writing lengthy words to describe how we are feeling, it also keeps text messages fun and concise.

Unfortunately, Emojis are regularly updated to reflect new trends which may make default emojis on your Android phone obsolete, to not be left out, it is recommended to keep them updated.

Fortunately, Android Emojis can be updated using one of the 3 options described in this article.

You can Update Emojis on your Android phone if your phone Android version can be updated to the latest version or by updating the Google Gboard, you can also get iPhone emojis on your Android phone by using a third-party app.

This post walks you through the steps required to update your Android emoji.

Steps to Update Android Emojis

I shall give three methods that you can use in updating your android emoji, these include:

1. Updating your Android version

2. Updating Gboard

3. Use a Third-party App

Method 1: Update your Android OS to the latest version

Androids regularly add new emojis to every new release, the latest Android 11 (as at the time of making this post) has 117 emojis added to the previous list.

Here is a quick recap:

Step 1: Open the Settings app on your Android phone.

Step 2: Scroll down to system updates and click on it

Step 3: From here, you can check for new updates and update to the latest version of Android as supported by your phone.

Method 2: Update Gboard

Updating Gboard is also a good method of getting an updated Emoji, below is how my Emoji looks like in the old Gboard version and the new version.

Follow the steps below to update Gboard to the latest version.

Step 1: Open the Google play app, search for Gboard and update it to the latest version.

Step 2: Enable Gboard by starting a conversation on any text messaging App or word processor.

Step 3: Tap on the Emoji icon as shown below:

A list of available Emojis will be displayed as shown below:

Step 4: You can start inserting the new Emoji into your chats by simply tapping on it.

Method 3: Use a third-party App

You can use Emojis from other platforms, such as iOS, Windows and Facebook, by using third party font editors like zFont

With this app, you can download the updated versions of emojis from another platform on your Android phone, which can give you a whole new Emoji experience.

To get started, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Open google play App, search for zFont and download it.

Step 2: Launch the App, you will be required to grant permission to write external storage, grant the permission to continue, accept the terms and conditions to get access to the app dashboard.

Step 3: Scroll down to access the emoji tab.

You can see the list of emojis available for different Android and iOS versions, you can click on the “See All” button to see more option.

Step 4: To update your emoji to the latest Android emoji (Android 12), simply tap on it to continue.

Tap on “Download” to continue. Once downloaded, click on “Apply”.

If your device supports changing fonts by using external app, the emoji will be applied and you can start using it in chats.

You can also download emoji for other platforms, such as iOS and Samsung to your phone.
