Spotify has confirmed that it is testing a new TikTok-style video feed in its beta iOS app that shows fullscreen video clips as songs are played, therefore becoming the latest Tik-Tok competitor to copy the short-video style. The new feature which Spotify is testing is called Discover and it presents a vertical feed of music videos that users can scroll through and optionally like or skip. The feature can be found as a fourth tab in the navigation bar at the bottom of the Spotify app, in between Home and Search.
This was according to a statement released by Spotify to TechCrunch. “At Spotify, we routinely conduct several tests to improve our user experience, and some of those tests end up paving the way for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning.
Spotify creates a new feature on its app called Discover.
The test was first confirmed by Chris Messina, who posted a video of the feed-in action. When available, the video feed is accessible from a new fourth tab in the navigation bar labeled “Discover.” Individual tracks can then be liked as you scroll through the feed, and there’s also a three-dot menu icon to bring up options for each song.
The Discover feed appears to build upon Spotify’s existing Canvas feature, where artists can have videos play alongside their music on the service. The videos shown as part of the Discover feed appear to be the same as those used for Canvas.
The feature is said to be only available on Spotify’s beta version for iOS), where a new icon in the navigation toolbar brings you immediately to the video feed when tapped. However, Spotify didn’t any comments as to when the feature will see a wider rollout.
